Overview

The trip will bring you to Kibale Forest National Park which is a paradise for hikers! Kibale Forest National Park offers the greatest variety and concentration of primates in East Africa including about 500 chimpanzees! It offers the best primate viewing (particularly chimpanzee viewing) and has a bird list of 335 bird species and 140 species of butterflies. This safari would not be complete without seeing the famous mountain gorillas!


Itinerary

Day 1

ENTEBBE

Depart Johannesburg on your scheduled flight to Entebbe, where on arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Overnight on a bed and breakfast basis at Lake Victoria Serena Hotel

Day 2

KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast depart to Kibale National Park. Check in for lunch at Kyaninga lodge. You will experience a Bigodi nature walk.
The Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is a fascinating area, located in Magombe swamp. This area is recognized for a extensive array of biodiversity among which are several primates species like the red colobus monkey, baboon, black & white colobus monkey, blue monkey grey cheeked, mangabey, vervet monkey, red tailed monkey and the L’hoest monkey. Additional Mammals such as chimpanzees, Sitatunga, mongooses, bush pigs, otters plus bush bucks, also visit this swamp coming from the adjacent Kibale National Park.

In the afternoon you'll have a nature walk at Bigodi.

Day 3

KIBALE FOREST NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast you will depart on your chimpanzee habituation experience.

On the Chimp Habituation Experience, accompanying Kibale reserve researchers and rangers, you will be on the forest floor early in the morning to watch the chimps wake-up (de-nesting) and search for their breakfast. Then you will follow them all day - observing the full gamut of their behavior - until they build new nests (nesting) for themselves at around 7.30pm.
You will be part of the Uganda Wildlife Authority initiative to habituate chimps to the human presence without changing their natural environment. This is one of the great moments of your safari!

Day 4

QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

After breakfast you will depart to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

In the afternoon you board the boat for a cruise on the Kazinga Channel. The Kazinga channel is a wide, 36-km long natural channel connecting the two Lakes; Lake George (which is to the east) and Lake Edward (which is to the west). From the safe boat you can see elephants, hippo, Nile crocodile and many water birds. The water birds are plentiful along the channel; African skimmers, African fish eagles, cormorants, saddle-billed storks, pelicans, etc.
The boat trip along the Kazinga Channel provides a memorable game viewing experience where you will see thousands of hippos, birds and other river wildlife and if you are lucky buffalo, elephant and maybe even a lion.

Day 5

BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST

After breakfast you will be transferred to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest with arrival in the late afternoon.

the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is said to be Africa’s oldest rainforest. It is world-renowned for its excellent gorilla-sighting opportunities. The rugged landscape features dense jungle, cascading waterfalls, sparkling mountain streams, deep valleys and steep ridges. This untouched forest has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of its breathtaking natural beauty and unique ecological significance. Aside from the amazing gorilla interactions, there are other drawcards such as a network of forest walks, over 340 species of bird to spot and a variety of butterflies. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the spectacular Virunga Volcanoes.

Day 6

BWINDI IMPENETRABLE FOREST

After breakfast you will depart for the headquarters of the park where your driver-guide will accomplish the necessary formalities for you. You will meet your ranger guide(s) for a briefing about the greatest animal experience ever! - Gorilla Trekking!

Day 7

DEPARTURE

This morning you will depart back to Kigali. En route to the airport, and time depending, you will do a short city tour with a visit to the genocide memorial.
